Who it is for

  • 1. webmasters
  • 2. affiliates

Webmasters often use motivation and misleads to reduce conversion costs. But everything comes at a price, and they end up paying with traffic cuts, payout refusals, offer closures, and meager caps with pitiful rates. Many often simply don’t realize that there is motivation or mislead in their creatives. That's what we’ll focus on in this article. The article is relevant for any traffic source and any vertical, but we’ll concentrate on gambling.

What is motivated traffic + examples

Motivated traffic comes from creatives in which the webmaster promises the audience a reward for a target action. For example, a person enters a casino not for the sake of the game and emotions, but to get money for registration or making a minimum deposit. In this example, there is a promise of 5 euros and 100 free spins:

Here's the same thing:

And here there is a promise of 150 free spins and 10 euros for registration:

The audience that comes from such creatives wants only their bonus. They won’t replenish their accounts, play, lose, replenish a second, fifth, or tenth time. They are not needed by the advertiser, and you can get a justified cut or even a payout denial for such traffic.

What is mislead in creatives + examples

Misleads in SPY services can be found much more often than motivation. Mislead is the demonstration of something that isn't in the offer. For example:

A slot that isn’t present in the casino;

Another casino's brand;

A non-existent bonus (there already was the example above with 2 misleads in it);

Demonstration of the different application than the one the user will end up in (when uploading through Facebook);

Another casino's interface.

Why is mislead bad? Put yourself in the audience's shoes. A person clicks on an ad and ends up not in the casino they were shown, or not in the right application. He can't find the slot or bonus that interested him. His emotions are quite understandable - distrust and disappointment - and these are clearly not conversion drivers.

How to avoid motivation and misleads in creatives

Several important recommendations:

  • Do not promise a reward for any action. Money for registration and a large amount for making a minimum deposit;
  • Specify bonus terms in a way that there is no feeling that a person will receive a gift;
  • When uploading to a new offer, take the trouble to replace its logo and interface in the creatives. You can also remove or hide these elements;
  • The same situation with replacing the application. It's better not to show the app at all than to show the non-targeted one;
  • Make sure that the demonstrated slot is present in the casino where the player will end up.

Wishing everyone a good ROI and high rollers.
